island delight & revealing my coursemates
as some of you might already know, i finally went island hopping! please visit my flickr page for de pix.
some of the pix are repetitions of those i sent to the favco folks, but de collection is actually bigger. a couple of previews
deja vu of june's black sheep
one of my chinese coursemate actually stays on one of the islands. we decided to go to his place to celebrate mid-autumn, and island hopping, and some futbol!
first lets introduce you my chinese coursemates~ coz as much as i'd like to show you my other coursemates, i couldn't just go taking their pix without a reason, can i?? and there's a guy who really looks and speaks like kimi... nO, i'll get his pix for you some day...
well well, first on, eric@qin ling, 真的就是秦岭, no kidding... nxt time if i marry a guy 姓朱,i'll call my kid 木狼马蜂... hehe, my geography geniusness is so helpful~ this guy sentiasa learning not 3 not 4 english from me... you know how chinese struggle with their english sometimes ^^ another football crazy, and de water was freezing...
tobey@wang xiao@王潇, he has 3 yrs working experience, and that's in china, so you can imagine how adulterated he can be :P but still quite a nice person in general... most chinese are quite career oriented anyway... and their networking skills... always like to belanja makan... which i'm still not used to... kinda reminds me of a particular melbourne uni ancestor...
and here comes my favourite little boy~ yeah, little boy, he's still a 3rd year bachelor student, younger than my brother ^^ du hong tao, 杜洪涛, a person who i can talk very comfortably to, like one that's tuned to the "chonghwa frequency", waka~ hard to express, not exactly chonghwa frequency, most joyful backpackers hav it also. it basically makes sharing a chair or a drink with these ppl or even hugging them natural, as in not awkward :) too bad he's only here for one sem.
there are quite a few more interesting characters in my class whom i'm getting acquainted with.
marco, a hyperactive guy from milan who speaks english like italian "i'er support'er milano, no inter!" and lisa a swedish girl who were already trying to sabotage another group's project with me de very first hour we met. another swedish girl martina went backpacking in oceania and south east asia for 6 months, and hated KL, haha... and this shy lyon guy, dennis, who also speaks english like french... this one i dunno how to immitate...
and a bunch of iranian metallurgists who are so brilliant... one might think they are princes from iranian colonies :P amin wears ties to uni... then this guy who i always talk crap to but cant remember his name, owns a horse... and mahdi and alburs are just a couple of super metallurgists who can make the whole class feel stupid. and there's this swedish guy fredrik who nv show up before 9am, "aaah... i'm not a morning person..."
wot great energy, wot great chemistry~ i'm again in good company :)
but talking about company, you ppl had set a standard too high...
miss you like crazy...

fotboll
poor derby county, they are better off in division 1...
after 6:0 by liverpool with torres and alonso both scoring twice, they are trashed again by arsenal... this time 5:0, adebayor's hat trick and cesc scoring and assisting again! he is getting crazier than last year's ronnie...
where are tv's when i need them?? i want to watch him play!
and when is MU going to score freely again?

~~pasta~~
it's all chiaki's fault... waka~
pizza hut sells de worst ones in de world...
yj might recommend u somewhere nice but expensive :P
so home cooked pasta's are always de choice when it comes to guaranteed quality and low cost ^^
that one up there (including my favourite tuna in olive oil) costs around 5kr (~RM2.50) in total, lol~
and preparation + cooking time? ~20min
italians are genius...

kimi's spa hat trick! + de middle east market
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA~~~
once again de finnish national antumn echoes thru the Ardennes hills, concluding SpaFrancorchamps GP 2007!
hat trick~ hat trick~ hat trick~ hat trick~
chant de kimi die-hards!!
and kimi did a doughnut with his F2007!!!(err, which means spins his car with high rev and brakes on and making a lot of smoke out of his tyres) THAT IS A FIRST!!! he wouldnt do that with macca would he? ron would hav killed him, like how he wants to kill lolonso now, wakaka...
ok, a bit on him >>
fernando torres + xabi alonso - xabi torres = fernando alonso
haha, he's got real guts this guy... how can u blackmail ur boss and then push ur teammate onto de grass and can still face de press like nothing had happened? pls send me further news on this if there's any ^^ it got me interested.
anyway, special thanks to choy who recommended tvants! :)
now de 2nd part of this post...
de market was so easy to find coz there's a swamp of ppl flooding there and i just followed~ de indoor part is under 3 of the block in de pic below, and de outdoor market is between de blocks.
it turns out to be a bloody awesome flea market ^^ as suggested by de first store indoor.
ok, remember it's a middle east market, jawi has to be everywhere, and take a look around, u are surrounded by middle east ppl.
they sell absolutely everything that a flea market might or might not sell... dried, fresh and prepared food (this is a big category already)...
electrical appliances, mostly 2nd hand, iron, sewing machine, remote controllers, mobile phones, computers... it's crazy, u name it, they have it...
i had an impression that middle east is famous for their carpet... izzit correct or i was misleaded by de flying carpet in aladin?
they even hav a hair saloon in there... =.= i'm overwhelmed...
but most of other stuffs they sell are old and 2nd hand... some are absolute crap... things that really make u feel, hey, common, who on earth will buy this piece of junk???? 50 yr old type writer, 60 yr old telephone, 70 yr old watch, walao.... more like antique shops... in contrast, there are very nice and classy clothes stores too... made me down right confused... i saw an old football at an outdoor stall (last pic below) that i thought of buying. but de young middle east boy who was looking after de stall saw my camera and was so shy and ran away and hide... @.@
ah~ now i hav my place to get some fresh fruits and 2nd hand stuffs ^^ happy

10th post from de north =)

under de same constellation
i had been highly tempted to go out and hav a look at gothenburg at night. and with soccernet reporting that Sweden v. Denmark euro qualifyer was being played at de stadium 5km away from where i stay, plus a little bit of encouragement ^^, i was gazing at the stars of de northen hemisphere.
星星就是穷人的珍珠 ^^
but... the star arrangement is strangely unfamiliar. no orion, no southern cross. tho expected, it still makes me want to cry T.T... i guess i should start to learn how to recognize ursa major, since it's there all year long on de northen sky.
will see orion again in winter tho :) can almost remember everytime when "can u see the 3 brighter stars that runs in-line?" rings in de ears. many years ago, on de back street of home when mom first taught me to recognize it; again quite ancient, under swaying coconut trees when we also first learned how to sing 熬夜; and probably de last time, on de unbelievable sydney trip with LL, that was our first real taste of low cost backpacking no?
hope i'll start to develop a bond with and to like de swedish twi-light like de malaysian and aussie ones before it :)
oh, right. it was going to be a trip to de stadium... nej, it wasn't.
coz while i was fixing my eyes on de night sky at de bus stop, a bloke came and we started to talk. and on de bus he confirmed that the game is played in stockholm >.< my fellow IT friends, how can i hack soccernet?
doesnt matter really, coz gothenburg at night is fascinating enough by itself. no heavy curtains like melbourne. so, warm, cosy lights are spilling out from de household windows, which make things a whole lot merrier ^^ i nv understand why melbournians like to draw thick and heavy curtains at night... it make the city feels like a crime and conspiracy movie shooting place. good for star gazing tho, less light pollution ^^

Jag heter Xin Fu
i met a little swedish friend tonight.
she wrote "ADINA" in her little writing book and shown it to me with one on her hand placed on her chest and said "Jag."
right, i understand that. so i replied "Jag heter Xin Fu", and that, i guess, was the only meaningful full sentence i spoke to her all night ^^
so she went away happily and then came back with more writings on her little book which says "SIMFOT"... ahk... that's an attempt to spell my name?!! how cute~ and i was later told that it means "swim foot"... wakaka
my kind landlady invited me to her family dinner, and there i met her family. four-and-a-half-yr-old adina is her great-grand daughter :) people from de family are really nice. they come from de north, and like most other swedes, speaks good english. and my landlady actually speaks german, french, latin, italian and russian also... scary? i was remembering my great-grand mother, she only spoke pu tian...
to my surprise swedish dinner is not very unlike italian ones. first you hav salad (with lettuce, tomato, corns, cheeze and olive) with bread and butter (tho italians use olive oil sometimes), then rice (risotto? italians will prefer pasta...) and sauced chicken with pickled cucumber and olives, then coffee and cake.
adina's younger sis who's always been frail is admitted to de hospital and most of de family went to see her after dinner. so i was half baby sitting a girl who we dont understand each other's language... that is new... but after cousin jonathan, it turned out to be a piece of cake really ^^ de girl's favourite pass time has been picking flowers, mushrooms and berries in de wild. that's how swedes grow up then? anyway, de best part of de night was spent learning swedish from and colouring children books with her, haha...
it's been another great experience to be taken onboard to permanent memory :)

my euro 2008 ^^
first step in planning (before buried by school work and i want to do it early!), i'm thinking of
sweden --> germany --> benelux --> france --> spain
by de look of it, eurail consider benelux as one country! :)
although
sweden --> germany --> switzerland --> austria --> italy
would be equally interesting
suggestions? are you thinking of a nordic trip? east europe? or do it all?!! lol~ tho, hav to confess that financially, physically and mentally, i'm probably only healthy enough for a month's trip.
and bear in mind oso that next yr's austria-switzerland euro 2008! that's in June tho. i tried to apply for volunteer but it din go thru >.< will try again soon~

2nd wk
it'll be super long again if i write everything down, so, let de pix talk. just a summary of everything, if you are more interested in pix, same old thing go to my flickr page, i hav a link at de right hand column --->
summer snow? nah, just some heavy hail... it becomes awfully cold this week.
dad asked for pix from chalmers. there they are, and more in you-know-where. dun expect anything like melbourne uni tho, chalmers' less artistic and more practical, since we chalmerists are techies! ^^ although i blieve in newey spirit, which says "combine aesthetics and technical merits"... so i tried to make those two above look nice, and i'm quite happy with wot i've got :)
just came back from another CIRC tour. pix all over goteborg stad. our group mascot was duck (de card board just below de swedish flag). so we were so into ducks that we met along de way. anyway, there will be more fun pix later coz we were a bit crazy at de start of de tour and many brought cameras.
got free lunch again ^^ and there were spares for free dinner ^^ yup, swedish meat balls~ it's de first time i taste them, pretty yummy~
de tour was done by 2.30pm. thought i'd hav a look at SKF since it's only 2 stops away from where i need to switch tram to bus. it had me confused tho... this building? SKF? but de logo's correct right? they probably hav branches and factories somewhere else.
this little plant welcomes me home everyday ^^
and this is just outside de decending to my door :)
ok, enough of pix. now, a special thanks to my land lady's daughter kristina who's also an old lady... and who is so nervous while she talk... and who lives with 7 cats... and who just change any topic that we were talking about to link with her cats... and who just suddenly bumped into my room, dragged me upstairs and showed me all de lovely dishes and kitchenates she bought for me! (is kitchenates a word? nvm u know wot i mean...) swedes can be really weird but they are always nice :)
ok, registration day. no particularly important thing to report. but i get free ticket into universeum, de 345kr xuan's heaven... and free tickets to allsvenska league football games where de 3 goteborg teams in de league play! and a few other free entrance to museums, theatres and etc too :)
one good news, i finally meet a MALAYSIAN!!!!!
she's on ERASMUS scholarship. so that's actually a good news for any of you who ever dream to further study in europe! fee's free and 1000 euro to spend per month! god... that's almost twice my salary... you can probably do very well already with 500 euro. and de rest... wot do u do with them? send them home, save them for future, go travelling, or even go shopping! wak... cant imagine having 500 euro extra per month...
anyway, looking forward to start of term :)
